Last month, 14 daring individuals took on the Big Drop for animals in need at RSPCA Bristol Branch & Bristol Dogs and Cats Home.
Organised to raise funds for 5 different local charities, the dedicated volunteers from RSPCA Bristol Dogs and Cats Home, ranging in age from 11 to 46 years old, took on the charity’s Abseiling Challenge. Descending the Grade 2 listed Safestore Bristol Self Storage building at Ashton Gate, they braved the dizzy heights to go over the edge, helping to raise vital funds for the local animal charity.
Thanks to the support of Bristol Safestore, the hard work of all the participants and the generosity of their friends and family a staggering sum of over £2,500 was raised from the event!
The weather was glorious and the building offered fantastic views over the city. However, for some participants the views were the furthest thing from their minds! One participant, Eleanor Humphries, 27 said “I was so excited when I saw the Big Drop advertised on the website. I was already organising a charity day at my work place and this was another chance for me to help the animals at the RSPCA & Bristol Dogs and Cats Home. However, once I was on the roof it didn’t seem like such a great idea! I thought the only thing for it was to get down as quickly and smoothly as possible. Despite the nerves, I’m really glad I did it and incredibly grateful to everyone who supported and sponsored me, enabling me to raise so much money for animals in need.”
Ellie raised a massive £670 including Gift Aid for the RSPCA Bristol Branch & Bristol Dogs and Cats Home. As a result she was the worthy recipient of a two course meal for two, kindly donated by Café Rouge on Park Street, Bristol, for raising the most sponsorship.
Jill Roynon, Fundraising Manager said “We are delighted with Ellie for working so hard to raise this money and to all of our abseiling team that overcame their fears, some in fancy dress, and raised an amazing amount of money for the animals in our care. Without the support of our volunteers and donors we would not be able to continue our important work giving animals in need the chance for a brighter future.”
