One Bristol cat has used up one of his nine lives this month after an adventure that took him the length and breadth of the city!
Appropriately named Frazzle, a 1 year old ginger and white cat went missing from his home in Eastville last week. While his distraught owner, Mrs Ellis, and her family and friends scoured the streets for the flighty feline, he had caught a lift in the engine of a of local van driver, Kristian Passmore, travelling around the city throughout the day.
Mr Passmore said, “He must have been looking for somewhere to have a snooze and crept into the engine in the morning. We had already taken one trip and were driving home to Eastville when we heard a cat meowing. We stopped and checked inside the van and around it but could not see a thing. Later that evening we went to see some friends in Bedminster and heard it again. After looking everywhere we decided to check the last place it could possibly be coming from…the engine. There he was, this terrified little cat had managed to climb into the engine and then got his head stuck. We removed him and gave him some food and water. It was late and we didn’t know what to do. He seemed unharmed but I am allergic to cats and could not have kept him overnight. Thankfully the RSPCA Clinic emergency service is available 24hours a day so we were able to take him down to them.”
Anoushka Barnes, Night Nurse at the Clinic said, “We checked Frazzle for any signs of injury but other than a few oil stains he was fine. We were very surprised. He is a very lucky little chap to have come out of that day unscathed. We then scanned him for a microchip which thankfully he had so we were able to contact his owner immediately.
Relieved owner, Mrs Ellis, on being reunited with Frazzle said, “we were so delighted to receive that phone call. We had been beside ourselves all day. He really had been on quite an adventure but I think he is very grateful to be home! I can’t tell you how glad we are that we got him microchipped straight away.”
Mr Passmore said, “We are just so glad he is safe and back at home where he belongs.”
June is National Microchipping Month which aims to promote responsible pet ownership through microchipping as the preferred method of permanent pet identification. To encourage everyone to get their pets microchipped (implanted with a special microchip tag), the RSPCA Bristol Branch Clinic in St. Philips are offering to microchip animals for as little as £10. Anyone can take advantage of this special offer but you must make an appointment at the Clinic in advance.
RSPCA Bristol Branch is made up of the RSPCA Bristol Animal Clinic and Bristol Dogs and Cats Home. Together they provide thousands of local animals with care, shelter, veterinary treatment and a rehoming service, giving them a second chance for a happy life, free from pain or neglect.
With so many animals to care for the charity’s annual running costs exceed £1.6 million. Both the RSPCA Clinic and the Dogs & Cats Home are independent from the National RSPCA and receives no funding from the National Charity, Government or the Lottery. The charity therefore relies on the support from the community through donations, legacies and fundraising events to continue its important work.
Anoushka continued, “Frazzle’s case is a great example of why it is so important to microchip your pets. If Frazzle had managed to get free, he could have been lost in any part of Bristol. We believe that microchipping is the best way to ensure a lost pet is found and reunited with its owner.”
