As another winter sets in, staff and volunteers at Bristol Dogs and Cats Home are working especially hard to provide hundreds of unwanted animals with the care they desperately need. With 200 hungry mouths to feed at any one time, the charity has once again launched its Winter Warmer Appeal, asking the public to help them keep toes toasty and tummies full this winter by donating food and blankets to the animal home.
Lynn Gilman, manager of Bristol Dogs and Cats Home said, “We’re appealing for donations of food, blankets and money for heating costs; to help provide for the hundreds of unwanted animals that find themselves alone and in our care during the cold winter season.
We are, as usual, full to capacity with unwanted and stray animals continually requiring our help. We receive at the very least 100 calls a week from people wanting to leave an animal with us, not to mention the many strays that come through our doors, and we anticipate this only getting worse. But with your help we can continue to provide a warm bed and a filling meal to animals in need this winter.”
Lynn added, “In addition we are always in desperate need of blankets to provide our cats and dogs with a warm bed to snuggle up in. Warmth is a vital but big expense for the Home and any monetary donations towards our heating costs, no matter how small, would be gratefully received by us and our residents.”
Bristol Dogs & Cats Home, an integral part of the RSPCA Bristol & District Branch, provides care, shelter and a re-homing service for nearly 2,000 unwanted dogs, cats and small animals every year. Although affiliated to the RSPCA, the Bristol Branch is an independent charity which receives no funding from the National RSPCA, Government or Lottery. They therefore rely on the support of the community to raise the £4,383 a day it costs to rescue, care for and shelter local animals in need, giving them a second chance for a happy life, free from pain or neglect.
We would like to urge all animal lovers to donate what they can towards the Winter Warmer Appeal, whether a tin of food, blanket or a monetary donation towards heating costs, and help make a real difference this festive season.
